A huge congratulations to our very own Callum Wrathall, Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, who has received a commendation at the 2026 Young Engineer of the Year Award (YEYA26) at the Scottish Engineering Awards 2026. The awards ceremony was held in May at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow and celebrates the finest talent in Scottish engineering.
“A few months ago, I presented the design of the new Ford Valeso to a judging panel from Scottish Engineering,” said Callum. “The main goal of the project was to create a modular WAV conversion, where interior dimensions would not be compromised by choice of powertrain.”
Andrew Young, speaking on behalf of The Incorporation of Hammermen of Glasgow, said: “Once again, the calibre of young engineers participating in the competition was exceptionally impressive. The standard of presentations demonstrated a remarkable depth of engineering talent, creativity and professionalism, of which Scotland can be justifiably proud.”
Scottish Engineering added: “The energy and enthusiasm displayed by all of our winners never fails to fill us with optimism for the future of engineering in Scotland.”
Closer to home, Managing Director of Allied Vehicles, Peter Facenna, said:
“It’s amazing seeing our staff grow and achieve amazing things. Callum is an asset to our engineering team and a very deserving winner of this award. All at Allied want to extend our congratulations to Callum.”
A humble Callum was quick to acknowledge his collegues’ contributions, adding, “It was great to be up on stage representing the company, and to receive recognition for leading the Ford Valeso design. A big thanks has to go to the rest of the engineering and production departments; this wouldn’t have been possible without their efforts.”
