The Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust has awarded a donation of £4,000 to Aberlour Child Care Trust to help provide vital support to children and families facing hardship across Glasgow.
Aberlour has been supporting children, young people, and families in Scotland for 150 years. The charity’s mission is to ensure that every child has the chance to grow up in a safe, nurturing and fulfilled environment. Many of the families Aberlour supports are experiencing poverty, poor mental health, domestic abuse and the damaging impact of substance misuse.
As the cost of living continues to rise, an increasing number of families are struggling to afford basic necessities such as food, clothing and heating. Aberlour has seen demand for family support increase by 34 per cent over the past year, reaching more than 350 families across Glasgow alone.
One mum supported by the charity said, “My eldest son sees that we struggle for food, and he knows he cannot do the same things that his friends are doing. I just cannot afford it. So, he is missing out.”
Last year, Aberlour supported 1,500 families across Scotland through a range of services including dedicated support within the home and community, immediate assistance for families in crisis, and meaningful activities that allow families to spend quality time together.
The £4,000 donation from the Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust will help provide practical support and essentials for 40 Glasgow families, as well as opportunities for up to 100 families to take part in activities that promote bonding and positive family relationships.
Gerry Facenna, Owner and Chairman of Allied Vehicles Group said, “Aberlour is a charity that does remarkable work for children and families who are going through incredibly difficult times. No parent should have to worry about putting food on the table or keeping their home warm, yet that is the reality for far too many families in our city. We are proud to support Aberlour and hope this donation helps to ease some pressure on families who need it most.”
Chloe Taylor, a Service Manager based in Glasgow added,
“Aberlour is delighted to receive such a generous donation from Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust. Your donation will go directly to helping families in Glasgow impacted by poverty, ensuring they have the support and essential items they need to thrive. Thank you.”
