Allied Vehicles Group, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of adapted and special purpose vehicles, has opened Scotland’s largest mobility superstore, in Glasgow.
The £750,000 retail outlet, named Mobility Solutions, offers consumers 8,000 square feet of mobility equipment and living aids including scooters, wheelchairs, beds, rise and recline chairs, walking aids and accessible vehicles.
Paul Nelson, managing director, commented: “The retail outlet represents a significant step forward for us in terms of the company’s development.
“We’re capitalising on our 20 years of experience with meeting the needs of disabled customers but diversifying into a completely new aspect of the market.
“Mobility Solutions gives customers a chance to touch and try out a wide range of products in-store. Many mobility products are only available online – Mobility Solutions offers customers a much needed alternative.”
The company, which posted a turnover of £65.8 million for 2012, currently employs 370 people, working throughout the UK but based predominantly at the company’s 20-acre manufacturing plant in Possilpark.
Nelson continued: “We’ve had a strong start to 2013, posting record monthly sales figures for February and March and winning the UK-wide replacement vehicles contract for Motability Operations, which should help treble our hire division turnover over the next 18 months.
“We hope to continue our expansion plans with the opening of more shops nationally, following the success of this first venture. We’re also moving into other types of adapted vehicles to drive the business forward.”
