Allied Vehicles subscribes to a rigorous environmental policy, to help ensure safe and efficient use of resources and to minimise harm to the environment.

Goal

In accordance with its requirements under the Environmental Protection Act (1990), subsequent legislation and Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC) guidance, Allied Vehicles will conduct its undertakings in a manner that ensures that it meets its legal and moral obligation towards the protection of the environment.

Procedures

Allied Vehicles has appointed appropriate members of staff to coordinate and be responsible for all environmental issues. It is the policy of Allied Vehicles, under the direction of the named responsible person, as far as is reasonably practicable and showing all due diligence, to:

  • Provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment for all employees, visitors and outside contractors whilst on company premises
  • Maintain safe systems of work that minimise environmental impact and where appropriate conform to legislative standards
  • Promote sound environmental management policies and practices throughout the undertaking
  • Make efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy and water
  • Minimise waste production as far as is reasonably practicable, to reuse or recycle waste where appropriate and to regulate the treatment and disposal of waste
  • Register under the Hazardous Waste Regulations, wherever appropriate
  • Appoint competent waste contractors and to obtain copies of appropriate Environment Agency licenses from said contractors at a period not exceeding twelve months
  • Store waste in a manner that is suitable and sufficient and to carry out in house waste audit trails to ensure that controlled and hazardous wastes as being disposed of correctly
  • Conduct external waste audit trails to ensure that wastes are being disposed of correctly
  • Store bulk virgin oil and wastes all in compliance with the Storage of Oils Regulation and in a manner that will prevent ground / water contamination
  • Dip check bulk oil storage tanks on a regular basis in order to lower the risk of an overfill incident
  • Obtain data from our suppliers with reference to the environmental impact of the products that are used as part of the undertaking
  • Use, as far is reasonably practicable, environmentally friendly products
  • Encourage joint consultation and participation in improving environmental performance, between the company and our employees

Company Actions

Allied Vehicles will comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and work to ensure that it remains informed of legislatative / guidance updates. In addition, we will seek to:

  • Take a pro-active approach to environmental management
  • Take into consideration the Health and Safety consequences of the Environmental Management Program and, where practicable, work in connection with the company Health and Safety Management program
  • Make arrangements for the safe use, handling, storage, disposal and transport of all substances and equipment
  • Carry out and document environmental awareness training with staff members
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the company’s environmental policy, revise as necessary and bring to the attention of company employees any such revisions
  • Work with Glasgow City Council in regards to the parameters set out in IPPC and related permits, to show compliance demonstration where appropriate
  • Use only products as defined in IPPC permits as being ‘compliant’

Employee Duties

Allied Vehicles staff are key partners in helping us meet and exceed our environmental obligations and goals. As such:

  • Allied Vehicles employees have a duty to carry out work activities with regard to the protection of the environment
  • Employees must participate in environmental awareness training when requested to do so
  • Employees must follow company rules and working practices with regard to environmental issues
  • Any concerns or issues relating to environmental protection must be reported to management immediately
